At Mumbetsa Primary School, a new chapter has begun – one where no girl is left behind because of her period. Savanes CBO has launched a sanitary towels campaign aimed at supporting menstrual health and hygiene among its female students.
For many girls in the village, managing their periods has been a challenge due to lack of access to sanitary products and proper information. This campaign is helping to break the silence around menstruation by creating a safe space for open discussion, learning, and support.
Teachers, health workers, and female mentors are leading interactive sessions on menstrual hygiene, self-care, and confidence-building. Each girl receives a supply of sanitary towels along with guidance on their proper use and disposal. Boys are also included in the conversation to foster understanding and reduce stigma.
Thanks to this initiative, attendance among girls is improving, and students are feeling more empowered. The campaign is not only about providing products — it’s about restoring dignity, ensuring equal opportunity in education, and nurturing future leaders.
This is just the beginning. With continued support from the community and partners, the school hopes to keep every girl in class, every day of the month.
